Abstract

Earthquakes are a major concern for civil engineers as it has caused numerous fatalities and irrecoverable damage to livelihood and assets. The field of seismic engineering has grown rapidly in the past few decades and a number of novel approaches have been adopted to mitigate the effects of earthquakes. Once such innovative method is the use of digital twins for seismic assessment and mitigation. Though Digital Twins are implemented in various fields, their full potential is not utilized in the field of seismic engineering. The current study gives emphasis to an introduction to digital twins, selected studies of application of Digital Twins and the potential of using digital twin for seismic assessment and mitigation.
